Canadians Respond to the Stop the TV Tax Campaign
Since launching our awareness campaign earlier this week to set the record straight and help Canadians Stop the TV Tax, here is what they have been telling us.
This tax is ridiculous! Why should I bail out these television outlets. Restructuring can be good for a company, and I suggest these companies that want the tax consider running an economical viable station… not dig into my pockets for their own benefit. I’ve been hit with taxes and user fees enough!
06/10/2009 – 1:42pm
This is just silly. T.V. signals used to be free and paid for by advertising and received by antenna. Then we went digital and could only receive signals via cable of satellite. Now we are going to have to pay an additional fee while the T.V. networks get rich on advertising. This is unnecessary and not fair. Stop the tax now!
06/10/2009 – 1:00pm
Others have expressed anger with how the Big Networks have been abusing their power:
Not more than 2 minutes ago I was watching A Channel in Ottawa at about 6:20Am and saw the new Stop the TV tax commercial. Immediately after it was aired CTV put their own commercial to support their local television to contradict and negate out your commercial. It’s a major conflict and especially if you are paying them to advertise it and they wipe out your add with their own.
06/10/2009 – 6:27am
Some are just tired of the bailouts:
Enough bail outs. If the local guys cannot sell enough advertising then should not be in business! What next, should we give money to the Toronto Star or National Post or Toronto Sun. Unless you are being featured on the local cable station, no one watches it. It is only made available as the CRTC ruled it so years ago. If the public has a need, someone will step in to fill that need. CTV or CBC can either fill it or get out of the business and let someone in that can meet the need!
I will cancel my cable subscription if the new tax is implemented. No one is giving me free money to help me with my business.
05/10/2009 – 10:47pm
Many Canadians have already submitted their email to the CRTC to Stop the TV Tax. If you haven’t done so yet, click here: http://www.stopthetvtax.ca/email-the-crtc
