Myth: This is a "one time" fee to support local television to help them cope with lower advertising revenues

Reality: The TV Tax will have no expiry date and big television networks refuse to guarantee it will be used for local television. The Tax would be up to $10 per month for each subscriber. Once imposed, taxes rarely go away.

"The Tax would be up to $10 per month for each subscriber." From what I have read in the past, the broadcasters felt that 0.50$ per station/network was the fee, NOT TAX, that they want to charge the BDU's, NOT the consumer. This is known as fee-for-carriage something that already exists for most, if not all, specialty channels the rates of which are higher. Since to date ctv, global, cbc, and a few independent broadcasters are requesting fee-for-carriage for their stations, one would have to subscribe to 20 affiliates collectively of the above networks to reach 10$. But again the BDU's have been asked to pay this fee by the networks.

I'M AGAINST THIS TAX OR FEE. THESE ARE COMMERCIAL TV STATIONS THAT HAVE 15 MINUTES OF COMMERCIALS FOR A ONE HOUR PROGRAM. IF THEY ARE UNPROFITABLE THEN THEY NEED TO REORGANIZE AND/OR CUT EXPENSES. MAYBE GETTING RID OF CUSTOM LICENSE PLATES LIKE I SEE ON CTV'S HONDA ELEMENT NEW'S VEHICLES WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO START!!!!
DON'T PASS NETWORKS POOR MANAGEMENT(SPENDING) ON TO THE CONSUMER. WE WATCH A FLOOD OF COMMERCIALS
AS PAYMENT FOR WHAT SEE ON COMMERCIAL TV.
IF I SEE A FEW ON MY SATELLITE BILL IT WILL BE CANCELLED AS SOON AS I CAN INSTALL AN ANTENNA AND/OR FIND AN ALTERNATIVE SOURCE OF PROGRAMMING.
    THANKS FOR READIND THIS.
  • Fact: The LPIF was not meant to be passed onto customers and should come straight out of the revenues of cable and satellite companies.

These companies and this website is trying to twist facts and make us side with them. There is a "TV tax" because these companies want to make it a TV tax. In reality, the LPIF is for them to pay out of THEIR pockets, not ours!

i certaintly do agree that we should not have to pay any tax at all on our cable because i think what they are trying to do is make us pay for the people who has free cable by what ever means that they can to get it because they cant catch these people why should we have to pay for them because there are a lot of people who dont pay that can afford to pay but they should not try and make people who does pay their bill pay more thank you

We are against the tv tax for the use of big television networks like the CBC. If you took a poll of what Canadians think of the CBC you might be surprised how many people would like it privatized instead of being subsidized by the tax payer already.

If the Networks want to charge per subscriber then give the subscriber the choice not to have that service. Make every channel discretionary. No more priority position on the dial! No more add substitutions! No more funding from the Canadian television fund that Satellite and Cable companies have payed into for years to support Canadian programing!

User pays is a great idea. I just don't want that choice of what I use made for me. Let me choose and if by doing that the networks fail so be it. Why should these networks get special treatment.

Their adds state the suppliers to the grocery store is paid for what they supply. I don't have to pay for what I don't want from the store do I?

Let the people decide what they want not the government. That is what democracy is.

The CRTC should ensure that all funds generated from this tax should go to local television with a clear formula as to how the funds will be distributed and with an expeditious time line.
